This U.S. Navy/Marine Corps commemorative challenge coin artistically depicts a sailor's and Marine's transit of the Suez Canal.
Adorning the obverse/front of the coin are historic Egyptian monuments including the Sphinx and Great Pyramid of Giza, a sailor, camels and palm trees, and an aircraft carrier.
The reverse/back of the coin features the bridge most commonly referred to as "the Friendship Bridge" (a.k.a. Shohada 25 January Bridge, Egyptian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, Al Salam Bridge, Al Salam Peace Bridge or Mubarak Peace Bridge), a submarine and naval destroyer, crossed Arabian swords, and verbiage reading:
"KNOW ALL YE BY THESE PRESENTS:
and, to all flea-bitten, sand-blasted,
sweat soaked salts of the Seven Seas
know that ye have completed the
transit of the Suez Canal."
This commemorative challenge coin is a great souvenir to give, receive, or add to your own personal collection. It also serves as a great compliment to the certificates by Tiffany Publishing Co. (and is much easier to display!)
