This challenge coin is for the thousands of expeditionary troops who have trained at Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek; for the thousands more who honed their skills at Fort Story; and for even thousands more who will receive their training at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia. The crashing waves, beaches, swamps, and sand dunes of Chesapeake Bay and Base Little Creek-Fort Story have provided soldiers and sailors of the US Army and Navy with a natural landscape and exemplary amphibious training facilities since the early twentieth century.
Established in 2009, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story is a US Military base commanded by the US Navy in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The expanse of this base covers nearly 4,000 acres of land with almost eight miles of beachfront area, making it the largest base of its kind in the world. Joint Base Little Creek-Fort Story is comprised of US Army Post Fort Story, which has trained soldiers in amphibious logistics maneuvers since 1914, and Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, training sailors in amphibious assault since 1942. Combined, this premier military installation offers unparalleled outdoor training for expeditionary forces. Together, they are the crown jewel of America’s military bases, unified under one motto, “Simult Militamus," which translates into, "together we serve."
The Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story challenge coin features the base’s the logo on the obverse. The reverse features an enamel ring around the coin’s perimeter with seals of the US Army and US Navy representing the joint base at the center.
